5. I try to practice zazen daily, in two periods of 30-40 minutes each.
I've realised from experience that practicing zazen less frequently than daily, is not really that beneficial.
Its a bit like trying to clean yourself with a few meagre droplets.
It needs to be a repetitive practice.

Also, whenever I leave gaps in my practice, I really feel that something isn't right.

Um... 3-5, I guess: I try to sit twice a day, but sometimes I fall off the wagon :).

Numero uno.

Six weeks of an hour a day was the best I could do. That was before Christmas last year. I haven't started up again.

4 but it's been tough since I got a young dog who chews his rawhide bones while I sit. The crunching and chewing sounds are distracting. I've also missed a few days lately while moving to Alaska. Wonderful drive though. If you ever drive the Alaskan highway (Alcan) stay over in a weird little town called Beaver Creek on the border of Yukon / AK. I've got great memories of the midnight sun at that place.

Also - Brad was definitely the catalyst for daily sitting for me. He helped gel decades of exposure & thought on zen into a real practice.

I haven't been motivated to up it to twice a day since my family is a higher priority for me (mornings I can sit before everyone wakes up).

Month to month the cycle is dramatically different for me. Last month I bowled a 2... previous month a 4... before that 1. All over the charts.

I havent been sitting recently at all, hence the fact that i am hanging out trolling the comments sections...btw, i do have a girlfriend for Oxeye's question...
When i do "sit" i dont necessarily sit in lotus position.

I believe bare attention (awareness to the present moment) can be practiced at any time, any place, but obviously the more simple the situation the easier it is at first.

I'm a 4 (ha!). But it's all Vajrayana sadhana. I do sit with no mind tools on occasion when I have some time to myself

I'm disapointed that I haven't seen as many 5's as expected from a zen forum. I guess y'all just a bunch of wussies.
j/k

:) No worries Jules.
I was going to respond in a joke myself, but I realised it was deemed innapropriate for a zen site catered to old people.

I initially thought it was a koan, anyway. Which is why I stared at the computer screen for longer than an hour before being fed up and moving onto porn sites.

If it's not too late to post, put me down for an optimistic 4, maybe a 3.9 or something because every once in a while I do miss a day, but let's say 27 days out of 30. That's about right.

4/5 but Vipassana/Mindfulness. I've no idea how much I do this each day - If I notice that it has stopped, I start it again.

I sit in Zazen when I go to a Sangha but that is maybe once a week or less.

I haven't sat in Zazen at home for some time now. A momement simply has not arisen where I have started Zazen. That may not be so in the future - it is the future.
